 About Skidompha

Services

More than a storehouse for books, your library offers a range of useful services unavailable anywhere else. Skidompha Public Library services include:

Get a Card! Residents of Damariscotta, Newcastle, and Nobleboro are welcome to apply for free Skidompha Library cards.

Family cards are available for $40 annually to state residents.  The family cards are good January through December.

Skidompha's collection includes more than 25,000 volumes for adults, young adults and children including books, videos, DVDs, audiobooks, CDs, large print books, magazines and newspapers. All items in your library circulate for two weeks. Renewals may be made in person, by phone or online.

Reference Services are available in person, by phone or by e-mail: Got a question? Ask a librarian! (this link takes you to a Maine State Library Information Request Form)

Local History and Genealogy Room Resources. We can help you search your roots and discover more about this area's fascinating history.

Photocopies and computer print-outs: 20¢/page for adults (over 20 pages, 10¢), 10¢/page for students.

FAX machine: $1.00/page (Incoming faxes must have a cover sheet.)

Renew Online: Skidompha Public Library card-holders can renew books online by clicking here.

Reader Advice: Can’t think of a thing to read? Our librarians would be happy to offer suggestions. See our News page for our latest titles.

Inter-Library Loans: You may obtain books from other library collections via our inter-library loan program. This service is available only for books, and only to holders of Skidompha or Skidompha Consortium library cards. There is a $2 per-book fee for this service.

Computers and Internet Access
The library's four desktop PCs are configured especially for library patrons and are equipped with popular software for word processing, Internet browsing, spreadsheet applications and other uses. They are available for 30 minutes on a first-come, first served basis by obtaining a PC pass from the main reservations desk.

Feel free to bring your own laptop to the Library. We have many quiet places for research and reflection where you may plug into one of the 50-plus computer ports available to patrons and check your email, update your portfolio or find answers to your questions through online sources. Skidompha is connected to the Internet via a high-speed T-1 line.  Wireless Internet access for library visitors has been available since 2003.

Library users who wish to learn how to use computers and the Internet can arrange for one-on-one training--ask for details at the front desk.

Links: Visit our Links page for a comprehensive list of great Internet resources for adults, young adults and kids.

Meeting Rooms: We offer two meeting rooms suitable for groups of eight to 12 people. These are free to the public but we ask that these be scheduled in advance by contacting the library.  For larger groups, the Porter Meeting Hall is available for a small fee.

The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop is a great source of inexpensive reading materials donated by our friends.
