2025.02.06 February Fun

Dear Friends,

A change of scenery as I write this in the waiting while I get my car serviced. Oil changes are so important! Yes, maintenance is rarely cheap, but these appointments give me time to sit quietly and get some work done.

And as I review our program schedule coming up I see some great opportunities. Let’s start with our Second Annual Puzzlefest! Our first Puzzlefest last year was a great success and brought people from all over our community to enjoy our selection of puzzles. Be here on Saturday, February 8th between 10:00am -2:00pm, and join us at solving traditional puzzles, sit down at our puzzle swap table, or be paired at a group activity like the puzzle arcade and puzzle chess. Puzzlefest is offers a great chance to get out of the house, and is a FREE community event that is open to all ages.

OK, maybe puzzles aren’t your thing. How about our brand new Spice of Life Collection: Take-and-Make Spice Kits. This fabulous program is the brainchild of our own Hannah Doktor (now Teen Librarian). Take-and-Make Spice Kits are Available in the Atrium throughout February. This month’s spotlight is Jamaican Jerk Spice! Skidompha’s new Spice of Life Collection! starts a new spice the first Tuesday of each month. Patrons will be able to take home a sample of the highlighted spice, two recipes on how to use it, and a suggested reading/history guide. All spices are organic and locally sourced, donated by our kind sponsors at Rising Tide COOP. Thank you, Rising Tide!!!

We have lots of offerings for kids going on: Music for Littles, D&D, Story Time, Big Screen Gaming, and plenty of fun to fill February Vacation. Look for Poetry Recitation on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 10:00am-11:00am/ This is for ages 8-12 and registration is required. This workshop is perfect for children who love poetry, or who want to work on their speaking skills.

We also have Lucet Cord Making (I had to look that one up!) on Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 10:00am-11:00am. This is for ages 8-12 and registration is required. Join us to learn how to use a lucet. This fascinating tool dates back to the Viking and Medieval times. All materials will be provided.

And Friendship Bracelets will be available on Friday, Feb. 21 from 10:00am-12:00pm. This is for all ages and you can drop in any time–and we hope you do!

That’s it for this week.

Be well,

Matthew
