Dear Friends,
Two years ago, I joined Skidompha in the role of Development Director, and I’ve felt very fortunate to learn so much about this library, libraries in general, and the vital role public support plays in these institutions. I’m passionate about celebrating the donors, businesses, and foundations which are so essential to Skidompha; it’s truly because of you that the Library can thrive.
Recently my colleague Hannah moved from her position as Adult Services Librarian to Teen Services Librarian, where she’ll continue to bring her incredible warmth, energy, and creativity to Skidompha. Her move prompted me to reflect again on the many ways flexibility and cooperation are so valued here, and it also got me thinking about how I might want to shift my own role at the Library. The humanities have always been greatly important to me, and their value to public life is so critical and enriching. This centering of the humanities in my life was part of the reason why I was so excited to work with Skidompha, and now I’m very excited to share that I’ll be moving into the position of Adult Services Librarian, working at the front circulation desk, creating programming, and (no small bonus for a bibliophile) contributing to Skidompha’s collection development. I really can’t wait to dive into programming, especially as we begin to plan summer reading events. Kristi, our Youth Services Librarian, and Hannah are amazing collaborators, and I know we’ll come up with some really fun programs for all ages.
I can only reiterate how gratifying it is to work at a place which meant so much to me growing up, and which continues to create great meaning in the lives of so many. Skidompha is just one of the many nonprofits creating this kind of impact in our community. Groups like Healthy Lincoln County, the Midcoast Humane Society, the Carpenter’s Boat Shop, the CLC YMCA, and many, many more help us all to live healthier, happier, safer lives, and I encourage everyone to support organizations like these.
I can’t wait to see you soon at Skidompha!
Chloe
