2025.02.20 Wintered Out

Dear Friends,

I think I am officially “stormed out”, and ready for some spring sun and greenery. Even my cat Pumpkin has decided watching the snow drift in the backyard is no longer interesting, and is instead working on perfecting his napping.

I’m heading down to North Carolina to visit family, so I may just get my wish. I am very fortunate that my NC fam lives near a salty-brackish river (I never actually checked the salinity) that plays host to dolphins, Tundra Swans, rays, flounder (or Fluke as we used to call them down on Long Island), Drum, Blue Crabs, oysters, and lots of leaping mullet–or happy mullet as I prefer to call them.

Just a few neat things to recommend this week: A reminder that we are hosting Tech Talks: Discussions in Digital Literacy on Saturdays between 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Want to learn more about technology, but aren’t sure where to start? Come check out our digital literacy workshops, covering topics such as cybersecurity, email and internet basics, and more! Registration is required so please stop in or email hdoktor@skidompha.org to register.

And Skidompha still offers free one-on-one technology help on Saturdays. Have a nagging question about your device? Want to know how to attach a picture to an email? Do that one formatting thing in Word you’ve never quite figured out? Find out just what the heck a printer driver is? Registration is required for this as well, so please stop in or call 207-887-0919 to register.

And don’t forget the very clever and creative DiversiTEA Book Club! Meeting next on Wednesday, February 26th from 3:15pm – 4:15pm. This program is for teens and adults and invites you to move out of your reading comfort zone by joining us to enjoy tea and authors from a different country! This February we will offer Zobo Hibiscus Tea and suggested reads are works by Nigerian authors such as Akwaeke Emezi, Chimamanda Ngozi, Adichie and Chinua Achebe. Not sure where, or how, to start? Stop off and see Hannah, or email her at hdoktor@skidompha.org. Please come ready to sip delicious tea and discuss one of the works by the suggested authors.

One last note: Skidompha Library will be opening at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 27, for Staff Development.

Be well,

Matthew
