Hello friends,
Something a little different this week. While we’re deep into our Summer Reading schedule of programs now, enjoying such options as our Drawing Challenge, Silent Book Club, Adult Game Night, Life Size Candy Land Game, I figured I could check in on our fabulous staff and see what they are into these days, and what is grabbing their attention.
I’ll start with Meghan, who says: “I have recently fallen down a music rabbit hole that ended at a German band called d’Artagnan, who advertise themselves as “Musketeer Rock,” and have been helping me make everyday tasks far more epic than previously expected. In terms of reading, I have been battling a reading slump by rereading The Monsters and the Critics, and Other Essays because Tolkien is always a good answer to life.”
Kristi just adopted two cats from the MidCoast Humane Organization. A bonded mother and daughter pair, Judy and Rhubarb, who were surrendered to MidCoast prior to them winning the Cat Lottery and finding a new home with Kristi and her family. Kristi also shared a superb book with all of us here behind the counter called Don’t Trust Fish by Neil Sharpson and illustrated by Dan Santat. Don’t trust fish, but trust me, this is a MUST read. And finally, there is music and dancing at the Favaloro household care of a new record player. Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison and Taylor Swift’s Midnights are on heavy rotation.
Hannah says, “I’ve been rewatching the 90’s sitcom The Parkers starring comedian Monique about a former teen mom that goes back to junior college with her now grown-up daughter and the shenanigans that ensue from being at college with your mom.”
Chloe says, “I have been enjoying Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for Playstation. It’s an improvement on the first game and has some absolutely amazing visuals- a sweeping, weird, immersive take on what games can be and do. And I’m shamelessly loving The Story of Abba: Melancholy Undercover, by Jan Gradvall, which is a great biography and fascinating examination of the European pop music industry even if Abba isn’t your jam.” I know Chloe has also adopted a new kitten she has named Lonnie. I am informed that both kitten and fam are doing well, and there is peace in their kingdom.
Terry is looking forward to taking some time off soon and traveling with family to Scotland! We’re all a little envious, I think. I know she is breaking up her trip overseas by spending some time with her sister in Ohio as well.
I’m currently reading, slowly, Mechanize my Hands to War by Erin K. Wagner. A tough read. Dangerously simplified, the book is about a society where robots are ubiquitous and taking over jobs previously held by humans. In response a man leads a militia recruiting and arming adults and children alike to fight back. In happier news, I have adopted two cats myself. They are both getting used to their new digs and taking pleasure in waking me up in the morning with the birds to let me know it is breakfast time.
That’s it for us. What are you doing, what has grabbed your attention?
Be well,
Matthew
