2025.10.23 Introducing Our New Children’s Librarian!

Hello Skidompha!

My name is Becky Cooper, the lucky duck who gets to be your new Children’s Librarian. I understand Kristi left big shoes to fill. There’s amazing footprints all over the children’s room as proof! In a nutshell, I am honored, intimidated, and excited. I hope you all will help me carry the torch that is Skidompha’s legacy.

But first, an introduction. I grew up in a town called Folsom, only a prison metaphorically, just outside Philadelphia. I am the second of three children and proudly carry all the stereotypes that go with that title. Some of my first favorite books were Silvester and the Magic PebbleWhere the Wild Things Are, and The Lorax.

Fast forward to the present, I live with my husband, six-year-old, and wiener-mutt, named Scott, Spike, and Frankenstein’s Monster the II, respectively. My new favorite children’s books are Robo-Sauce by Adam Rubin, We Are Definitely Human by X. Fang, and The Wolf Suit by Sid Sharp. My favorite graphic novel series will always be Bone by Jeff Smith.

I have called Hallowell, Maine home for the last nineteen years. If you were ever in the neighborhood at that time, I might have helped you find a blanket at Brahms Mount Textiles or peddled a goodie to you at Slates Bakery. For the last two and a half years, I was the Children’s Librarian in Hallowell’s library, Hubbard Free. If that sounds oddly familiar, you may know the work history of my colleague and friend Teen Services Librarian, Hannah Doktor. We started at that library one day apart, and I am thrilled to be collaborating with her once again.

I hope to bring whimsy, play, and comfort to Skidompha’s community, young and old alike. May I be approachable, helpful, and a friend to you all.
