A bit of bee news…
This Saturday, April 18th at 10:30am, we will be hosting the Annual Beekeeping Update with Jen Lund, the Maine State Apiarist. Lund is an exceptionally engaging speaker, and her presentations are both fun and informative. During the program, Lund will also be opening, inspecting, and commenting on our own Skidompha observational hive. As many of you know already, we sadly lost our bees this winter. There are many reasons why this could have happened and we hope that with Jen’s help we may be able to understand why this occurred. An inspection is also a great opportunity to get a close-up view of the inside of a hive and learn how bees make use of the space.
We invite you to come down and take part in this fascinating program and ask your bee questions.
If bees are not your thing, at 10:30 on that same day we will be celebrating the Coastal Kids Preschool 30th anniversary by hosting award-winning local children’s author and illustrator, X. Fang. Fang will read from her book We Are Definitely Human and share how stories come to life. This book has made the rounds with Skidompha staff and to a person, we have all absolutely adored it! Free copies of the book will be available while supplies last. This program is a collaboration with Coastal Kids Preschool and is a family-friendly event that is perfect for young readers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children.
