Hello Friends,
Some bee news!
We were privileged to have Jen Lund, Maine’s State Apiarist here last Saturday to speak about the state of bees in Maine and do an inspection of our hive. Around 30 people, many from the Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers Club (KLCBC), attended and received the benefit of Lund’s perspective and knowledge. After the presentation Lund did an inspection of our own observational hive, and the results were interesting. While our bee population had dwindled greatly over the winter, we still had a live queen and a group of roughly 30 bees surrounding her.
The KLCBC has generously agreed to help us with our own hive, and at a later, warmer date will take our hive off the wall upstairs and bring it to one of the local apiaries for a more thorough cleaning and inspection. Thank you very much, KLCBC!
We love our bees and we know you do as well, but we ask for your patience as we keep our hive covered for the next few weeks until the KLCBC can work their magic. We think it best for now that our queen and her colony have some privacy to do what they need to do until their spring unveiling.
Be well,
Matthew
