Hello Friends,
I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our fabulous Summer Read Kick-Off Party at Skidompha last Saturday. A special thank you to our amazing patrons who joined us in the fun and signed up for a summer full of programing and reading fun. You helped make this a great event and a Saturday to remember and we welcome you to the Summer Read family. I am so happy you stopped by and I look forward to seeing you again with your completed Bingo sheets!
And thank to our amazing Skidompha staff: Terry for covering Main Circ, Gab for staffing our build-your-own-artifact clay station, Hannah and Chloe for chatting with and creating a welcoming place for our awesome teen and adult patrons, Becky for somehow keeping up with the wonderful, massive crowds of excited children and parents, Meghan for her superlative smoothie bike management, Samantha for her warm and friendly presence at our temporary tattoo station and frozen pop cooler, and Spike for his amazing T-Rex work! It was a team effort and thank you for your imagination, planning, and for making this such a special event.
There are Summer Read activities available for all age groups, and we invite those who missed the party to come in and sign up anytime this summer. There are too many great events planned to include in this letter, but some examples include Pompeiian Tile Window Art and En Plein Feet for Children, Wired Wrapped Jewelry with Real Fossils, Crafternoons (including a project called Geode Skulls, and Bedazzle A bookmark!), needle felting, nature walks, book clubs with free books included, and a lot more. Drop by Skidompha for a full schedule of events and to check out some of the great prize bags we have available for the end of the summer.

PS Novel Jazz will be performing their Jazz on a Summer Day concert here at Skidompha on June 19th from 7-9:30. Enjoy an evening of jazz out of the Great American Songbook, with special emphasis on Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Admission is free and open to the public, but Skidompha always welcomes financial donations. Also, this will be an evening to remember the homeless and food insecure among us, and we encourage donations of food and personal hygiene items for the Library’s Little Free Pantry. Pantry items must be unopened and not expired.
