Hello, Terry here, taking over for Matthew this week.
Over the years, when people hear that I’m “from away,” I’m often asked what brought me to this wonderful state. My husband and I had vacationed in Maine years before and fell in love not just with its beauty, but also with the people and New England life. When my husband had an opportunity for a job transfer from Pennsylvania to Damariscotta, I retired from my job as a children’s librarian in Ohio, and we never looked back. Once settled here, I volunteered in the children’s room at Skidompha, that is until the Pam Gormley, Skidompha’s Director at the time, learned of my prior library experience, and offered me a job. Soon after I found myself working on the adult side of the library. Everything seemed to have fallen in place. Maine was our home, and I have enjoyed living here ever since.
It’s now been 16 years since arriving in Maine, and is time for new adventures. I will once again be retiring, and my last day at Skidompha will be September 30th. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for welcoming me to this community and this wonderful library where the staff are family. I’ll still be around town for now, hoping to run into the many friends I’ve made while checking out your library books, requesting your interlibrary loans, setting you up on a computer, or hearing about the last great book you read.
I am so grateful for the time I’ve had at Skidompha. What a difference you’ve all made in my life. Thank you everyone.
