Contending with Catastrophe: A Jewish and a Christian Response to a Divided World

In a world that is spinning out of control—lacking moral clarity and bereft of spiritual guidance, how are we to respond to the breakdown of trust and civility? Two religious leaders who have spent their careers on the front lines of interreligious and community activism will explore some of the vital questions about the role our religious traditions can play as Americans contend with catastrophe, grieve unbearable losses, and seek common ground for hope. Conversation with the audience will follow the presentations.

Rabbi Andy Bachman currently serves Temple B’nai Israel in Laconia, New Hampshire after serving Jewish communities in Brooklyn and Manhattan for the past thirty years. He lives in Portland, Maine.

The Reverend Christopher Leighton is the Founding Director of the Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the author of A Sacred Argument: Dispatches from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim Encounter, and now resides in New Harbor, Maine.
