Grades 4-6
Thursday, Apr. 10 | 3:15pm-4:15pm
Skidompha Library | Children’s Room | Registration Required
The freedom to read is essential to a healthy and functioning democracy; this new book club series aims to amplify the voices of marginalized authors and people. We invite students in grades 4-6 to celebrate National Library Week with us this year by reading Melissa by Alex Gino.
The story of a young trans girl, Melissa was formerly titled George, and was one of the top 10 most challenged books in the United States from 2016-2020. Melissa won three major awards in 2016: The Stonewall Book Award, The California Book Award, and the Lambda Literary Award.
Participants will receive a free copy of the book, and the meeting will consist of a book discussion and fun related activities.
