Materials at the Library

In 2003, the Genealogy and History room was designated the Lincoln County Genealogy & History Center. We’re deeply grateful to many people, but especially to Carolyn Kelsey and Joyce Brown, for their outstanding efforts in organizing the resources of the Genealogy & History Center. We are located on the second floor of Skidompha and are accessible via stairs or an elevator.  Wi-Fi is available in this section, as well as one library computer.

All Genealogy Center materials, except for 929.26 books, are restricted to library use only. Many parts of the collection are being digitized; see our Other Online Resources for information and links.

The Local History & Genealogy Section has 3 main subsections, all of which are constantly expanding:

  • Genealogy and Local History – noncirculating materials including published and unpublished books, binders, vertical file information, maps, periodicals, and manuscripts.
  • Genealogy HowTo Books – circulating collection, all with 929.26 designation
  • Special Collections – Fragile and unique items requiring advance arrangements to view; some of these items have indexes available in the genealogy section. Some of these items are stored offsite. In most cases one week’s notice is necessary for retrieval of off-site materials.
