Dr. Judy Stone presents Resilience, a story of Holocaust Survival at Skidompha Library

Skidompha Library is pleased to welcome Dr. Judy Stone to Chats with Champions on Thursday, October 10 at 10 a.m. Dr. Stone will speak about her book Resilience: One Family’s Story of Hope and Triumph Over Evil in Skidompha’s Porter Meeting Hall. Please allow time for parking and note that seating is first come, first served.

Dr. Stone, the daughter of Holocaust survivors, will tell the story of her family, from village life in rural Hungary through the Holocaust, and on to their rebuilding their lives and families in the U.S. It is also a personal memoir of her journey to learn and share their stories, many of which were previously hidden from her.

Resilience calls attention to the parallels between what happened in Europe in the 1930s and the rise in nationalism and anti-Semitism in our country today. Dr. Stone seeks to fulfill the promise she made to her mother to share her family’s experiences and honor their memories.

Dr. Stone is an infectious diseases physician and is experienced in clinical research. A graduate of Washington University, she completed medical school at the University of Maryland, residency at Rochester General Hospital in New York, and fellowship at West Virginia University. She spent 25 years in solo practice in rural Cumberland, Maryland, and now cares for patients part-time as a substitute (locum tenens) physician. She is a Forbes Pharma and Healthcare contributor, the former Molecules to Medicine columnist for Scientific American, and the author of a nationally recognized textbook, Conducting Clinical Research: A Practical Guide for Physicians, Nurses, Study Coordinators, and Investigators. She especially likes writing about ethical and social justice issues.

Along with her commitment to physical healing, she has an avid interest in oral history and Holocaust education. Through telling her family’s remarkable story, she hopes to teach tolerance and contribute to making the world a better, more peaceful, and more just place.

Chats with Champions is a free community offering from your national award-winning Skidompha Library, located at 184 Main Street, Damariscotta, Maine. This program is generously sponsored by Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop. For more information, please call the library at 207-563-5513.
