Genealogy Event: Immigrant Ancestors – How Did They Get Here and What Was Life Like in Their New Land

February 15, 2018 @ 5:00 pm6:30 pm

Free

This evening genealogy program at Skidompha Library will focus on 19th and 20th century US records, including the use of census, citizenship records, and local histories to inform family historians about their ancestors’ newfound neighborhoods, towns, opportunities, and challenges. Sometimes in the pursuit of finding that ancestral homeland across the “Big Water,” researchers pay little attention to the people and places where their ancestors first settled in the United States or Canada. This evening’s program will encourage researchers to delve into the story of their ancestors’ new homes in North America and will provide strategies for finding resources to learn about the people and surroundings in their new land. This free program will be held Thursday, 15 February, 5:00-6:30 and is a good preparation for our June Roundtable where participants are welcome to share their ancestors’ immigration and settlement stories.
