Guidelines for Borrowing and Returning
- The mobile hotspot may only be checked out to Skidompha Library patrons who:
- Have an active and up-to-date- Skidompha Library account
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Are in good standing (have no fines) with the Library
- Hotspots may be borrowed for 7 days with no renewals
- Devices are available on a first-come, first-served basis
- Patrons may place holds on hotspots
- A limit of one hotspot may be checked out per household
- The borrower is solely responsible for all online activity and hardware well-being while the device is borrowed in their name
- Hotspots must be returned in-person at the front desk during regular business hours. They may not be left in the book drops
- Hotspots must be returned with all the pieces (case, hotspot, charger, and laminated instruction & policy cards). A librarian will confirm the presence of all components before checking the item in
- Failure to follow the return policy may lead to repair and/or replacement costs and may impact the patron’s borrowing privileges
- If the hotspot is not returned by its due date, service to the device will be turned off and late fees will be applied
Fines and Replacement Costs
- Overdue hotspots will be charged $1.00 per day up to a maximum of $10
- If an item is not returned after 10 days, the borrower will be charged the $10 late fee and will be billed for a replacement fee of $120
- Replacement charges may be applied and borrowing privileges may be impacted if components are lost or returned in poor condition:
- Hotspot Device: $80
- Case: $20
- Charger: $20
Device Use
- Hotspots only work in the continental United States
- Internet content filtering is not provided through the hotspot. Skidompha Library’s Internet Standards of Decency Policy guidelines apply, with the card holder solely responsible for any/all online activity. Inappropriate use, hacking, etc. may lead to loss of privileges and/or prosecution
- The borrower is solely responsible for all online activity and hardware well-being while the device is borrowed in their name
- All users of this service agree to hold Skidompha Library and the service provider harmless from any and all claims, losses, obligations, or liabilities, directly or indirectly relating to the use of the hotspot
- This service can be disrupted or unavailable from time to time due to maintenance, inclement weather, location, or other factors outside of the Library’s control
Skidompha Internet Standards of Decency Policy
As protector of personal freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, the Library does not select, monitor, or restrict access to the millions of internet sites available. However, patrons must observe the community’s and the Library’s standards of decency while in the Library and/or while using Library equipment.
While using any Library equipment and/or while in any Library campus location, whether using the Library internet computers or personally-owned computers, users must not view text or graphics that may be reasonably construed as pornographic or an not meeting standards of decency.
Limits on Library Responsibility
Skidompha Library respects patron privacy and does not provide personal information or data to the service provider. Skidompha Library is not responsible or liable for damages or expenses resulting from use or misuse of the hotspot device, connection of the device to other electronic devices, or resulting data corruption or loss. Skidompha Library does not guarantee that the T-Mobile network will be available in all locations and the Library is not responsible for outages and/or connectivity issues. No Assurance of connectivity or privacy is offered or implied. Skidompha Library offers hotspots as a public service at the user’s risk.
