Summer Programming for Kids and Teens

As I get to know Skidompha Library, I am continually impressed with the offerings of our Children + Teens section. Our staff and volunteers are knowledgeable, energetic, and can suggest educational activities to make the most of your summer. Stop by for a full list of programs and events happening throughout the summer at the library (or visit our website: www.skidompha.org).

A sampling of our programming includes:

Kids Story Time: For our littlest learners, we offer twice weekly story times (Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m.). These are led by Jessie, our children’s librarian, and are filled with stories, songs, and movement. It’s a great way for caretakers and children to connect with each other.

Summer Learning Tracking Sheet: Stop by the Children’s desk at the library to pick up a tracking sheet to help learners ages 0 to 12 keep track of their summer goals. It includes activities such as “read a book for twenty minutes” and “attend a Skidompha program.” Keep track of your progress throughout the summer and earn a prize!

Story Walks: Located to the right of Skidompha’s front entrance and to the left of Skidompha’s back entrance are our 2019 story walks. You and your little ones can stroll and read a picture book at the same time!

Unique Borrowing: Did you know that you can borrow a telescope, sun spotter, or ukulele with your library card? Spark your learner’s curiosity and support a lifetime of learning.

Our Teen Librarian, Sophie, is offering Summer Teen Reading programming options throughout the season, ending with a henna program provided by Erica Qualey on August 22 (from 2 – 3 p.m.). We’ll also set up our Wii system in Porter Hall every other Friday in July and August. We welcome area teens to enjoy friendly competition and escape the heat.

We hope your summer is off to a great start! And remember, if you get too warm, please visit the library and enjoy the crisp air conditioning!

Take care,

Matthew Graff
