I read somewhere that we have made it through the ten darkest weeks of the year, and I do notice the sun staying in the sky a bit longer, and rising a bit earlier (Hooray!). But I’m also aware that winter evenings in Maine do not generally lend themselves to socializing and can, with the lack of sun, bring a little extra loneliness. In response, may I suggest Skidompha’s Adult Game Night coming up tomorrow, Friday, February 2nd? From 6-9 pm. Join Molly as she keeps the library open after hours for gaming. We’ll supply games–or bring your own–the space, and snacks. Come with your friends, or come alone and join a gaming group. This really is a lovely way to meet people, have fun, and laugh, in a low pressure, fun atmosphere.
One other note, it is “that” time of year for librarians–It’s tax season again! That time of year when the phone rings off the hook and lines form at the circ desk with people asking for tax forms and instructions. In conjunction with AARP Skidompha is again offering free tax preparation services here at Skidompha. Appointments run from 9 am to 1 pm on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month. We still have slots open through February and March, and on April 10th. Preparers only do basic returns, but this is a great opportunity for those who are facing their first return, or if you are seasoned filer and are just looking for a hand this year. No drop-ins, please, appointments only (and they are going quick!). Call Skidompha at 207-887-0919 to secure a time.
